How to Care for Your Peonies
Share
It might seem like the more beautiful the flower, the harder it is to care for. Luckily, peonies are an exception to this rule.
Today, we’ll share tips on how to make your peonies from Flowers Valley last longer at home.
Caring for Peonies: Tips for Longevity
- Peonies bloom in the summer, so it’s important to keep them comfortable in bright, sunny weather. Place them away from direct sunlight, drafts, and don’t put the vase near air conditioning vents that blow cold air.
- The cooler the indoor temperature, the slower the peonies will open, extending their lifespan.
- Keep fruits and berries away from your flowers, no matter how lovely they look together. Fruits release ethylene gas, which can shorten the life of your peonies.
- Use a tall vase and fill it with water, ensuring the water level reaches 3 quarters up the stems. Remember to change the water regularly, add Chrysal flower food, and maintain a high water level in the vase.
More Peony Care Tips
- Spritz your peonies lightly to increase humidity around the blooms, but don’t overdo it! You want a light mist, not a downpour.
- Choose a vase that’s wide enough for the flowers to breathe. Peonies don’t like to be cramped—make sure the buds are only gently touching each other.
- Trim the stems every time you change the water, even when you first receive your beautiful flowers from Flowers Valley. Make a diagonal cut, ideally under running water, and then make a vertical cut about an inch up the stem. This increases the surface area for absorbing water and nutrients.
With these simple tips, your Flowers Valley peonies will brighten your home for days to come. Enjoy the timeless beauty!
